Erasmus+ Stories

My teaching visit to Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia, was a deeply enriching professional and cultural experience. I was warmly welcomed by the English Department and supported by the International Grants Team, who ensured smooth logistics and helped facilitate an intensive teaching and cultural program. The visit allowed me to share insights on communicative language teaching, explore opportunities for collaborative research, and attend a memorable inauguration ceremony for new professors. Beyond academic exchanges, I experienced the vibrant local culture, from tasting traditional cuisine and visiting Madura Island to exploring Mount Bromo and the breathtaking Madakaripura waterfall. Most of all, I cherish the warmth, hospitality, and lasting friendships formed with the teachers and students of Universitas Airlangga. I can describe the visit in four words: valuable experiences and incredible memories!

Prof. Dr. Nemira Mačianskienė, Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania

My visit to Universitas Airlangga through the Erasmus+ K171 program was a truly enriching experience. I was impressed by the students’ motivation and active participation, as well as the warm hospitality and professionalism of the staff. Teaching here was both enjoyable and rewarding, and exploring the culture and natural beauty of Indonesia made the experience even more memorable. I look forward to returning in the future.

Dr. Marta Ulbrych, Krakow University of Economics, Poland
The Erasmus+ Staff Exchange at the Universitas Airlangga was one of the best Erasmus+ experiences in my life! I truly appreciated the warm welcome and support from the faculty and staff, whose professionalism and dedication made my experience enriching and memorable. I was particularly impressed by the highly qualified staff, beautiful University campus and level of engagement and knowledge among the students, which made for stimulating academic discussions. I am grateful for the opportunity and hope to continue our academic connection in the future!
Dr. Tomasz Tomczak, University of Opole, Poland

I would like to sincerely thank the entire Universitas Airlangga community for their warm welcome, professionalism, and sincere cooperation during my mobility visit. Every meeting with administrative staff, faculty, and students left a positive and inspiring impression. During the visit, there was an open atmosphere conducive to academic growth, which encouraged the sharing of knowledge and best practices. This Erasmus teaching visit has become a valuable professional and cultural experience, enriching me on both a professional and personal level. I wish the university continued success in maintaining such a strong, united, and internationally-minded community.

Dr. Robertas Kavolius, Klaipėdos valstybinė kolegija, Lithuania

My mobility experience at Universitas Airlangga was truly exceptional and exceeded my expectations. I was particularly impressed by the outstanding coordination, which ensured a smooth and highly productive visit from beginning to end. The academic level of both students and lecturers was remarkably high. Students came to classes exceptionally well prepared, actively engaged with the topics, and contributed to insightful, thought-provoking discussions. I was equally impressed by the lecturers, whose expertise, professionalism, and dedication to academic excellence created an inspiring environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Beyond its strong academic standards, Universitas Airlangga fosters an open, welcoming, and internationally minded atmosphere that encourages dialogue, critical thinking, and cooperation. I am sincerely grateful for the warm hospitality and the opportunity to work with such talented students and colleagues. I look forward to continuing and strengthening the academic partnership between Universitas Airlangga and Mykolas Romeris University in the future.

Dr. Gintarė Makauskaitė-Samuolė, Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania
Erasmus+ is a prestigious program, and I feel honored to be part of it. Through this program, I learned many things, not only about teaching and research in Europe, but also about the culture. Romania is a beautiful country with friendly people and a unique cultural background. During the mobility, I had the chance to interact with students and staff, share knowledge about renewable energy, and also introduce Indonesia. This program really gave me new perspectives, especially on how to teach and collaborate. It was a great experience, and I hope more Indonesian lecturers can join in the future to expand our global collaboration.
Dr. Tahta Amrillah, Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline

I arrived in Sibiu expecting to teach, but I left having learned just as much. One of the most rewarding aspects of my Erasmus+ Staff Mobility experience at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu was the opportunity to engage with students and colleagues from different academic and cultural backgrounds. What I remember most is not only delivering lectures, but the conversations that followed—the thoughtful questions, the exchange of ideas, and the shared curiosity that transcended borders.

The experience reaffirmed my confidence that the academic standards and expertise at Universitas Airlangga stand proudly alongside those of institutions around the world. Beyond the classroom, living in Sibiu introduced me to a different rhythm of life, one that was calm, active, and deeply connected to culture and community. Those experiences broadened my perspective, both as an academic and as an individual.

For me, Erasmus+ is more than a mobility program. It is a reminder that meaningful collaboration begins with human connection, and that some of the most valuable lessons emerge when we step outside our familiar surroundings and remain open to learning from others.

dr. Rimbun, Faculty of Medicine

Erasmus+ Staff Mobility at the University of Aveiro was more than an academic visit, it was a meaningful exchange of perspectives and values. Through teaching and collaborative engagements, I gained valuable insights into project-based learning and the integration of real-world problems into academic practice. Beyond the classroom, open and informal conversations with colleagues enriched my understanding of both professional and personal dimensions of collaboration. This experience reshaped how I approach teaching and globally relevant learning environments.

Dr. Barry Nuqoba, Faculty of Science and Technology
Participating in the Erasmus+ Staff Training Mobility program at the University of Opole was a truly meaningful experience for me. It fulfilled my childhood dream of visiting Europe and gave me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of visual anthropology. I was grateful to connect with scholars from around the world, exchange ideas, and experience a new academic and cultural environment. Overall, it was a valuable and memorable journey that opened new opportunities for international collaboration.
Intan Fitranisa, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences

I had the privilege of joining the Erasmus+ Staff Training at the Medical University of Sofia, an enriching experience that promoted professional growth, intercultural exchange, and academic collaboration. I connected with colleagues from across Europe, sharing best practices and exploring innovative approaches in higher education and medical sciences. The well-designed sessions and warm hospitality in Sofia fostered meaningful discussions and lasting partnerships. I’m grateful for this experience and excited to apply what I’ve learned to support internationalization at my home institution.

Mellya Junita Ulfa, Airlangga Global Engagement
Participating in the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training program at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu was a transformative professional and personal experience. Through discussions with the International Office, Erasmus+ coordinators, and other key units, I gained a deeper understanding of internationalization practices, mobility management, and digital administrative systems. These exchanges provided practical insights that I plan to apply at my home institution to enhance partnership development, workflow efficiency, and support services for international participants. Beyond the academic exposure, exploring the cultural and historical richness of Sibiu broadened my global perspective. Despite challenges such as the visa process and adapting to a new environment, the experience strengthened my resilience and reaffirmed the value of global collaboration in higher education
Mustaghfiroh Yusuf, Airlangga Global Engagement

When I arrived in Tartu, I expected to learn about mobility programs and internationalization strategies. What I did not expect was how much I would learn from the people behind them.

Participating in the Erasmus+ International Staff Week at the University of Tartu gave me valuable insights into mobility management, digital administration, and international partnership development. Yet the most meaningful lessons came through conversations with colleagues from different countries, backgrounds, and professional experiences. Those exchanges reminded me that successful internationalization is not only built through systems and policies, but through trust, openness, and genuine human connection.

The experience broadened my perspective on how universities can create more inclusive and impactful global engagement. It also strengthened my belief that international mobility is not simply about visiting another institution, it is about building bridges between people, sharing ideas across cultures, and bringing new perspectives back home.

For me, Erasmus+ was more than a professional development opportunity. It was a reminder that lasting global connections often begin with a single conversation.

Zadina Abadi, Airlangga Global Engagement

Through the iWeek program on IPCA Erasmus Staff mobility Program, I had the opportunity to connect with international colleagues and strengthen my global network. One of the most valuable parts of the program was the public speaking workshop. It helped me build confidence with better delivery ideas in an international setting. As someone working in an international office and teaching environment, these skills are highly relevant and immediately applicable for me. Beyond the academic experience, I was also impressed by the warm hospitality of the host institution and the enriching cultural exposure in Barcelos, Braga, and Porto. Everything was very well organized, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. This program has inspired me to continue contributing to the internationalization of Universitas Airlangga, particularly by building sustainable collaborations. I strongly encourage others to take part in Erasmus programs, as they offer invaluable opportunities for growth and global engagement.

Tiara Kusumaningtiyas, Airlangga Global Engagement

Studying in Finland has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It opened my eyes to new ways of thinking and living. The whole experience definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it also made me so much stronger. Being surrounded by nature every day and seeing the aurora dance across the night sky were moments I’ll never forget. I truly hope many other students can experience something like this through the Erasmus+ scholarship.

Fiona Lim, Student, Faculty of Economics and Business

Joining the Erasmus program has been one of my stepping stones to developing a new perspective that achievements will never truly end. I’m extremely grateful to have participated in this program—being exposed to something new, whether it’s experiences, connections, or knowledge, has helped shape me into a more competent individual.

I really want to share that there are so many exciting and valuable things you can gain during the Erasmus program, and I’d love to encourage more friends to join! My advice is to “go for it” and don’t be afraid to try something new. This program could be the starting point—or even a new path—for you to grow and become a better version of yourself. Always remember to “step out of your comfort zone” and try things you’ve never experienced before.

Gabriella Amanda, Student, Faculty of Science and Technology

I totally recommend the Erasmus+ Traineeship program at the University of Opole. I personally think this is a life changing opportunity to get to know to European work culture and learning hard skills related to my study in Indonesia with new approaches. I am thankful to have supportive mentors during my program, thanks to Dr. Clara Kleininger and Dr. Michał Wanke. The kindness and helpfulness from the Erasmus staffs and AGE staffs will also always remain in my heart. I will cherish all the love and memories I had in Opole, especially the people there, eating Polish cuisines, watching sunsets near the river, and the peaceful ambiance of Opole.

Monika Febriana, Student, Faculty of of Social and Political Sciences

My Erasmus+ experience taught me that learning does not only happen in classrooms, but also through conversations, cultural exchange, and stepping outside of our comfort zone. Some of the most meaningful lessons came from the people I met along the way. The friendships, conversations, and memories I gained not only helped me grow personally and professionally, but also made the experience truly unforgettable and made leaving feel so difficult.

Fiona Lim, Student, Faculty of Economics and Business

Studying abroad once felt like a distant dream, but through Erasmus+, I found a path shaped by persistence and growth. My experience at Kraków University of Economics not only broadened my academic perspective especially in international marketing and creative project management but also reshaped how I understand collaboration and communication. Beyond the classroom, engaging with diverse communities and even contributing to a music conference in Denmark allowed me to connect my passion for music with global industry practices. This journey pushed me beyond my comfort zone, teaching me to grow independently. Erasmus+ is more than an exchange program it’s a transformative experience that changes how you see the world and your place in it.
