Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) Program is a short-term exchange program offered by Global Affairs Canada. This program provides opportunities for students from ASEAN member states to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions in areas that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development program aims to reduce poverty in the developing countries of ASEAN and to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Scholarships and educational exchanges will contribute towards the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SEED contributes to strengthening people-to-people ties between Canada and the Indo-Pacific region.

SEED scholarships are facilitated through institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between post-secondary institutions in Canada and their partner institutions in ASEAN countries. Students wishing to pursue short-term studies or research in Canada should review the eligibility criteria and contact their institution’s international office for application details. Canadian institutions must apply on behalf of eligible candidates.

SEED Stories

Participating in the Canada–ASEAN SEED Program at Dalhousie University was a deeply transformative experience for me. It allowed me to pursue my academic interest in traditional health beliefs and dietary acculturation while immersing myself in a vibrant global research environment. Engaging with scholars and students from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds enriched my understanding of consumer behavior and broadened my perspectives on cross-cultural research. I am grateful for the support of my supervisor and the opportunities to exchange ideas, develop new methodological skills, and experience an inclusive academic community. Overall, this program was a meaningful and memorable journey that expanded my academic horizons and opened pathways for future international collaboration.

Participating in the Canada-ASEAN SEED 2025 program at Dalhousie University was an experience that exceeded my expectations and successfully reignited my passion for lifelong learning. I hope other ASEAN students can have the same experience, because Canada, especially Nova Scotia, has it all: comfortable cities, unique houses and buildings, history, healthy and fresh food and drinks, and friendly people. At the very least, it will be one of the best experiences of your life.
