ICHCI: Liverpool John Moores University Summer Program in Universitas airlangga, Indonesia

UNAIR annually hosted Liverpool John Moores University students for a unique program called Indonesian Cultural Heritage and Community Immersion (ICHCI). Participants explored Indonesia’s diverse cultures in Surabaya, Kediri, Bromo, and Banyuwangi, engaging with local communities and learning about Sustainable Development Cities. Activities included community works in rural areas, underwater tourism, hiking to Bromo mountain, and visiting Javanese cultural centers in Yogyakarta. This immersive experience deepened their understanding of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.

UNAIR x Griffith University (Indonesia’s Relations with Australia Before and After the Pandemic)

We teamed up with Griffith University for an exciting program aimed at exploring Indo-Pacific cultural politics and Java’s rich heritage. Classroom sessions delved into these topics, while outdoor activities in Surabaya, Malang, and Yogyakarta brought cultural immersion to life. Partnering with UNAIR Mengajar, we engaged in hands-on community projects like mangrove planting, emphasizing sustainability and community involvement. From historical sites in Surabaya to the scenic beauty of Malang and Yogyakarta’s cultural treasures.

ETHEREAL: UNAIR x the University of Staffordshire Discover Indonesia

ETHEREAL (Exploring Cultures, Identities, and Heritage of Java with Universitas Airlangga) is a tailor-made international program by Universitas Airlangga in collaboration with the University of Staffordshire, UK. It invites participants to explore Javanese culture, identity, and heritage through a journey from Surabaya to Yogyakarta, including Pasuruan, Mojokerto, and Kediri. Beyond the classroom, participants join interdisciplinary courses such as traditional medicine and Englishpreneurship, and engage in meaningful community service with local communities. The experience is enriched with hands-on cultural activities, from crafting to off-road jeep adventures, creating unforgettable memories throughout the journey.

UNAIR x Haute Ecole EPHEC (Doing Business in Indonesia)

In collaboration with Haute École EPHEC, Belgium, UNAIR hosted a dynamic short program designed to explore the intersections of Indonesian culture and economics. Participants gained first-hand insights into Indonesia’s economic landscape through a series of company visits, lectures, and interactive discussions led by local experts. Beyond the academic setting, the program featured immersive cultural experiences, including Batik making and traditional dance workshops, allowing students to engage directly with Indonesia’s rich heritage. This well-rounded journey not only deepened their understanding of Indonesia’s societal dynamics but also fostered meaningful cross-cultural exchange offering a truly memorable introduction to the heart of Java.
