Continuous Transformation Leads UNAIR to Secure 276th Global Position

UNAIR NEWS – Commitment to quality improvement and real contribution once again brought Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) international recognition. In the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2027, UNAIR secured the 276th position globally and ranked third in Indonesia.

“This is not merely a number or a position in a ranking. It is the result of a long journey, hard work, commitment, and collaboration of the entire UNAIR academic community in building an institution that is increasingly excellent and globally competitive”, said Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan SE, MSi, MFin. He delivered the statement during a press conference held at the Management Office Hall, Campus MERR-C, on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

The Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) explained that the current ranking was the fruit of consistent growth. He noted that this achievement reflected a quality improvement that was not temporary, but the result of continuous transformation.

Excellence in Several Indicators

In the ranking, UNAIR excelled in several indicators. For the International Research Network (IRN), UNAIR rose from second to first place in Indonesia. Prof. Madyan stated that this achievement showed how international research collaborations built by UNAIR lecturers and researchers had become stronger and gained global recognition.

“Various cross-country research collaborations, joint publications, joint supervision, visiting professors, and other forms of global academic partnerships have contributed significantly to strengthening UNAIR’s position internationally”, he explained.

The International Faculty (IF) indicator also showed very positive development. This indicator became one of UNAIR’s main strengths with the highest score compared to other indicators. In QS WUR 2027, IF improved both in score and national ranking, moving from fourth to third place in Indonesia.

“The presence of lecturers and researchers from various countries not only enriched the academic atmosphere on campus but also improved the quality of learning, strengthened the research and publication ecosystem, and expanded global scientific networks for our students and lecturers”, said Prof. Madyan.

UNAIR also showed positive performance in the Faculty Student Ratio (FSR) indicator, which increased in score and global ranking. Nationally, UNAIR maintained its position as the second best in Indonesia. This achievement proved UNAIR’s commitment to maintaining education quality through strengthening faculty capacity and improving academic interaction between lecturers and students.

Meanwhile, in the Academic Reputation indicator, UNAIR improved its score and global ranking. This increase demonstrated that UNAIR’s academic reputation in the eyes of the international academic community had become stronger and more recognized. The achievement was inseparable from the contributions of UNAIR lecturers, staff, researchers, students, alumni, and academic partners worldwide.

Reflection of Quality and Impact

According to Prof. Madyan, the ranking achievement was only one reflection of the quality and impact UNAIR had delivered. Moving forward, UNAIR would continue to focus on producing quality education, impactful research, innovation, and graduates who could contribute to the nation and the world.

“UNAIR will continue to strengthen campus internationalization, expand global research networks, improve education quality and academic reputation, and build institutional governance that is increasingly adaptive, innovative, and data driven”, he emphasized.

All strategies and efforts were carried out based on UNAIR’s motto, excellence with morality. He also invited the entire academic community to maintain this positive achievement as momentum for continuous improvement. “Let us make this achievement a new energy to keep working, collaborating, and innovating, for UNAIR to have an even greater impact on Indonesia and the world”, he concluded.
