AGE NEWS — Universities worldwide are increasingly engaging in international collaborations to enhance academic excellence and global research capabilities. These partnerships bring together diverse expertise, foster innovation, and address global challenges. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universitas Airlangga (FKH UNAIR) recently initiated the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) Taiwan. Representatives from FKH UNAIR visited NPUST on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Moreover, this collaboration aims to enhance academic exchanges and research initiatives in veterinary medicine and tropical agriculture.

The partnership is centred on two primary objectives: first, finalizing a double-degree collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Tropical Agriculture and International Cooperation (DTAIC) at NPUST, and second, exploring opportunities for an inbound staff program. These initiatives enhance bilateral relations and align with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.

A pivotal moment during the visit was the meeting between Prof. Dr. Widjiati, drh., M.Si, Head of the Department of Veterinary Science at FKH UNAIR, and Prof. Yan-Deer Hsuuw, Ph.D., from DTAIC NPUST. Prof. Yan-Deer Hsuuw, a distinguished professor in the Department of Biological Science and Technology at NPUST, President of the Taiwan Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association, and a key figure in the Embryo Development and Embryonic Stem Cell Lab plays a crucial role in this collaboration.

During the visit, key representatives from both institutions discussed the potential for joint research projects and guest lecturing opportunities. Prof. Yan-Deer Hsuuw expressed his willingness to be a guest lecturer in veterinary embryology at FKH UNAIR. Additionally, he agreed to become an Adjunct Professor (APL) in the Division of Veterinary Anatomy at FKH UNAIR for the upcoming year. His involvement is expected to bring new insights and enrich the academic experience for students and faculty.

The collaboration between FKH UNAIR and NPUST is not just a strategic step but a promising opportunity for both institutions to enhance their academic capacity. This partnership is set to offer long-term benefits to students and faculty, providing them with unique learning and teaching opportunities. The meetings and agreements reached during this visit mark a significant advancement in expanding international cooperation networks and improving the quality of education at both universities. This collaboration is a testament to how international partnerships can elevate educational standards and contribute to addressing global issues. By pooling resources and knowledge, universities can drive significant advancements in their respective fields, benefiting communities worldwide.
