Strategic Meeting of UNAIR and The University of Western Australia

AGE NEWS – A meeting was held between Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia and The University of Western Australia on Tuesday the 14th May 2024, in Surabaya. The meeting discussed an opportunity to continue The New Colombo Plan for Australian students to study at its partner universities. Universitas Airlangga has previously conducted the program with other universities from Australia such as Griffiths University among many other experiences in programs alike. 

The University of Western Australia is located in Perth, Western Australia a sister province of East Java Indonesia. This research-based university is among the Group of Eight (Go8), boasting its strong reputation for academic excellence, research, and innovation. It is also currently ranked 72nd in the QS World Rankings. Comparing academic cultural background profile with Universitas Airlangga is relatively vast, although located as neighboring countries and close, this offers a wide array of strategic learning opportunities for students through The New Colombo Program 

The meeting acknowledged previous interactions, especially within the Faculty of Social and Political Science and the Faculty of Economy and Business. This lays the foundation for deeper collaboration. Safril Mubah, Ph.D as the Coordinator for International Corner, Airlangga Global Engagement is also currently in research collaboration with Associate Professor Yu Tao from The University of Western Australia which has paved the way for this collaboration in the future. 

In brief, the strategic meeting between Universitas Airlangga and The University of Western Australia marks progress towards stronger academic ties, leading to enhanced research collaborations, student exchanges, and joint initiatives to enrich the global academic landscape.
